Who certifies

No statewide tester program found; each water system certifies or approves testers

There is no state tester certificate. Each water system decides which certificates it accepts.

What it takes

Credential
Tester certification or approval from the water system (Albuquerque, Las Cruces and Rio Rancho each run their own).
Before you start
Repairing assemblies in Albuquerque requires a Construction Industries Licensing Act mechanical license. Rio Rancho asks for a business license and any other licenses.
Training
Albuquerque, Las Cruces and Rio Rancho each need a 40-hour course (Albuquerque: approved by the Water Authority, based on USC FCCCHR or an ANSI-listed program).
Exam
Albuquerque: written and practical exams given as part of the approved course.
Renewal
Albuquerque: every 3 years; an 8-hour course plus 16 hours of CE, otherwise a new 40-hour course. Las Cruces: 3 years; 8 to 16 hour recert course.
Test kit
Albuquerque: gauge calibration report every year; tests with an uncalibrated gauge are void.
