What it takes

Credential
Missouri certified backflow prevention assembly tester (ABPA or ASSE exam, with Missouri rules questions)
Training
No state-required course in the rule read. Training is usually taken at a school; instructors may not test their own students.
Exam
Written exam (about 100 questions, includes Missouri rules) and a hands-on exam on a double check, pressure vacuum breaker and reduced pressure assembly, from ABPA or ASSE, proctored by a third party. The department publishes an annual schedule of exam dates and locations on request.
Renewal
Certification is valid three years. Recertify through ABPA or ASSE requirements, including Missouri rule questions, and make sure the organization notifies the department.
