What it takes

Credential
GBPAT certification (EPD guidance effective Sept 1, 2021)
Before you start
High school diploma or GED, and 6 months of plumbing or drinking water distribution experience (verified by a contact). The exam can be passed before the 6 months are done, but certification cannot be issued until then.
Training
32-hour BPAT class from a GAWP-approved provider, including a hands-on proctored exam on RP, DC and PVB assemblies using the USC 10th edition procedure. The course does not expire.
Exam
100-question ABC exam, 70% to pass, taken after the course. Wait 30 days to retake. Apply for certification on the GAWP site after passing.
Renewal
Valid 3 years. Renew with 6 contact hours of GAWP-approved backflow continuing education and a Code of Ethics form. 90-day late grace period during which you may not test; after that the certificate is revoked and the exam must be retaken.
